Cycle route Elburg and surroundings
Elburg, Epe, Oldebroek
Elburg, an old fishing and trading town, has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Once the town was located directly on the Zuiderzee, but this did not prove to be a wise choice due to the frequent floods that plagued the town. After being almost completely wiped off the map in the 14th century, it was decided that Elburg should be relocated. It was converted into a fortified town and the old centre is well preserved to this day.
The square layout of the town makes it easy to navigate and a walk through the historic centre is definitely worthwhile. You can soak up Elburg's history and enjoy its atmospheric ambience. But Elburg has more to offer than just its rich history. Here and there you will still come across barracks, as the area is also very suitable for military exercises.
On a cycling tour around Elburg, you will pass through the beautiful Zwolsche Bosch, a breathtaking piece of nature where you can enjoy the peace and quiet.
But the Pluizenmeertje is surely a highlight during a cycling trip. Here you can enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna that the Veluwe has to offer.
