Cycle route Discover your spot in the Achterhoek
Vorden, Ruurlo, Lochem
The north of the Achterhoek, more precisely the area around the Lochem-Vorden-Ruurlo triangle, offers lots of natural beauty. Enjoy the vistas to old castles and as you cross the Twente Canal and the Berkel. Lochem is a cosy, monumental town with lots of natural beauty. If you are at the local bakery, you are likely to hear Dutch celebrities asking for a Borderless bread.
Wine farms can be found in nearby Geesteren and Laren. Vorden is best known for its eight castles. Only Castle Vorden and the gardens of Huis de Wiersse can be visited; at Castle Hackfort, the coach house houses a restaurant. But Vorden has more to offer than castles: it hosts the annual Dutch Championship Skeeleren Marathon in June. Those who want to get lost can visit Europe's largest hedge maze in Ruurlo, which lies in the beautiful hedgerow landscape. Finally, you can take a trip in a real Berkelzomp from the harbour on the Wemerdijk.
