Cycle route Artistic villages in Drenthe
Dwingeloo, Eemster, Lheebroek
Anyone who has ever been to the Open Air Museum in Arnhem will be familiar with the old village school that stands there. This little school used to be in Lhee, so you know what to expect from Lhee: pure nostalgia. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere as it was decades ago.
Inspired to cycle further? Continue your route to Dwingeloo. This esdorp, with the Sint Nicolaaskerk as its beacon, also has a nostalgic feel. Scattered through the village, several artists have established themselves. For example, visit the gallery where you can find both ceramics and painting. After Dwingeloo, you head along rural roads to the next cute towns.
Near Leggeloo (junction 76), for more art galleries you can deviate from the route towards Dieverbrug (a bit towards junction 51). Along Dieversluis are the art studios of De Zwarte IJsbeer, Kiki Liem and Zilver en Zo. The impressive textile art at Atelier Scheperkunst is also well worth the extra turn from junction 94! Add the stepping-off points to your route and don't miss a thing.
Of course, you can't ignore the beautiful nature in this area. Enter viewing tower De Schapenkop for a phenomenal view over the Dwingelderveld.
