Cycle route around Margraten
Margraten, Valkenburg, Gulpen
The landscape around Margraten has everything: beautiful nature, historical buildings, marl quarries and cosy pubs and restaurants. If you want to fully enjoy this region, you should choose this route. From Margraten, you cycle through the impressive surroundings with views of Maastricht and the Meuse valley towards Valkenburg, a city full of castles, ruins and caves.
At the end of the 19th century, coal was mined in this area. In Valkenburg, you can visit a coal mine and experience the life of a miner.
Then cycle on to atmospheric Gulpen, famous not only for its beer (Gulpener) but also for having the thickest swamp cypress in the Netherlands. You'll find it in the park around Neubourg Castle.
Via small villages such as Euverem and Banholt, you end the route back in Margraten. This way, you will have many experiences in one afternoon!
