Cycle route around Delft
Delft, Delfgauw, Rijswijk
We know Delft as the city where engineering is studied at the highest level at TU, of Delft blue and the painter Johannes Vermeer. But have you ever stopped to think how beautiful and historic the city is? You will find plenty of cosy courtyards, colossal churches, beautiful old buildings, such as the impressive City Hall, the former City Butterhouse and Delft's smallest house on Oude Delft. All while cycling or walking along the charming canals.
Of course, you will experience Delft's vibrancy during this cycle route, but we also take you to the areas outside the city. There, via the canals, you will soon find yourself in green polder landscapes full of ponds, ditches and lakes.
At the edge of the Ackerdijkse bos you will find a giant Delft blue tulip vase. Also special is the Melarium, a kind of giant bee hotel with viewing platform, and further on you can get off at a bird-watching screen and the observation tower over the Ackerdijkse Plassen.
Via Delfgauw, you arrive at the Grote Plas and Deer Park. These two green oases are not only beautiful to see, but also offer all kinds of recreational opportunities. Take a cooling dip in the lake on a hot summer day, for example, or pick your own herbs from the park's dedicated gardens.
Via Rijswijk you cycle along the canal back to Delft and have gained a fascinating experience.
Tip: Start your cycle route at TOP Ackerdijkse Bos. Here you will find ample parking space and an information board about the area.
