Cycle route Altitude differences on the Veluwezoom
Rheden, Laag-Soeren, Doesburg
The Veluwezoom is characterised by beautiful rolling heathland. This also means large differences in height! Although you sometimes face a tough climb, you will be rewarded afterwards with phenomenal views. And with the descent, of course! In the woods, consisting of a wide variety of deciduous trees and conifers, you might even come face to face with a red deer, fallow deer, roe deer or wild boar. Also foxes, badgers and the rare pine marten live on the Veluwezoom. The greatest chance of spotting game is at sunrise or in the evening twilight.
In the interests of nature conservation, large grazers have been introduced to the heathland. The Rheden flock of sheep can often be found on the Veluwezoom, but you may also encounter Scottish Highlanders and Icelandic ponies.
In between climbing, you can cool off along the water of the IJssel. Also, stop off in the historical centre of Hanseatic city Doesburg for a pleasant moment of relaxation.
Start and finish your cycle route at De Pannekoekenbakker near cycle junctions 35 en 01. Here you will also find a large car park.
