Cycle route along windmills in Zuid-Beveland
Goes, Yerseke, Wemeldinge
Do you find history interesting and can't get enough of beautiful views? Then this route is just the thing for you! While cycling, you will pass several windmills and cycle through the impressive landscape of Zuid-Beveland in Zeeland.
In Wemeldinge, for instance, you will pass the striking white Molen de Hoop windmill. This is the oldest mill in Wemeldinge and dates back to 1866. On Saturdays, a miller is often present and you can take a look inside the mill. Goes once had as many as 11 mills, yet only one remains. Molen de Koornbloem is a large mill dating from 1801 and located near the television tower. This view gives a unique image of bygone and modern times side by side.
During your ride from one Pit stop to the next, there is no need to get bored, there is plenty to see! Vast vistas, old farms and swampy water bodies alternate. Large parts of the route take you along the waters of the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde estuaries. One cycle path with beautiful views over the water, the other along a green dike with lively nature.
Enjoy 71 km of nature and history. Think 74 km is a bit too long? Then cut the route short by cycling from node 68 to node 69 and continue your route here regularly (or vice versa, of course). Near junction 49, you can easily park to start the route from here. The car park is on the Oude Zeedijk in Wilhelminadorp overlooking the water.
