Cycle route along the shores of Alkmaarder and Uitgeester Lake
Castricum, Uitgeest, Akersloot
For many years, the Alkmaarder and Uitgeester Lake has been a popular place for relaxation and nature. But recent changes are upsetting the balance between nature and recreation. Fortunately, innovative projects have started to preserve and even improve this beautiful area.
The route takes you past unusual peatlands, such as the Saskerlei, and bird-rich nature reserves, such as De Hooge Weide. The windmills and Heritage Park De Hoop add a touch of cultural history to the route. Of course, such a cycle route around the water invites you to jump into the water on a summer's day. Bringing your swimwear is therefore a good idea
On this cycle route from Buitenpoort Castricum, discover the beauty of the lake, its surroundings and North Holland's cultural heritage. Learn about the challenges and developments the area is going through, and experience for yourself what makes it so special!
This route was developed by Bureau Toerisme Laag Holland, commissioned by the Twiske-Waterland Recreatieschap, the Alkmaarder- and Uitgeester Lake Recreatieschap and the Province of North Holland and is part of the Interbestuurlijk Programma Vitaal Platteland.
