Cycle route along Limburg's waters
Roermond, Heel, Beegden
Roermond is a city you want to discover: historic, vibrant, and a true city of water. In fact, Roermond is where the Ruhr and the Meuse merge. That makes for beautiful and special natural areas just outside the city! Get on your bike and step outside the banks of the Meuse and outside the centre of Roermond.
On the way, you will pass the Asseltse Plassen. The lakes were created by gravel extraction and getting off your bike here is more than worth it. In fact, there is a huge wealth of flora and fauna here; you will find dozens of different species of dragonflies alone.
There are even more ponds on the route. How about De Lange Vlieter, the Boschmolenplas and the Polderveld near Beegden and Heel? And on the way to Thorn you cycle past the Grote Hegge, where you can take a break on the day beach. The route also takes you past picturesque tributaries of the Meuse winding through the landscape.
Of course, the Meuse is not to be missed on this route. You cycle along it for quite a while, which is always enjoyable!
