Cycle route along Berg and Dal
Groesbeek, Berg en Dal, Malden
This cycle route takes you through town, nature, over mountains and past vineyards. In Groesbeek, just outside Nijmegen, you won't feel like you're cycling in the Netherlands. The rolling landscape with vineyards, arable fields and wooded areas make this an ideal cycling environment. The village has 25 hectares of vineyards, making it the Wine Village of the Netherlands. That should be toasted on the way, right?
Via the Zevenheuvelenweg you cycle from Groesbeek towards Berg en Dal. And as the road says, you will have to climb here from time to time. But as you climb, there will also come a time when you descend again. Moreover, on the hilltops, you will enjoy the beautiful views.
Berg en Dal is fairytale-like, the green meadows and vineyards make you feel as if you are on holiday. Because of the many hills, especially in the early 20th century, many houses were built in chalet style. Some of these still exist today. You will also find a Roman aqueduct in Berg en Dal.
Through wooded surroundings you cycle towards Malden. Hidden among the trees, there is a clearing where you can see the foundation of a former Roman watchtower in the landscape. The guard post dates back as far as the 3rd century.
Between climbing and descending, you can recharge yourself at one of the fine restaurants on the route. Or get off to visit one of the museums in Berg en Dal. So you have a wonderful day out!
