Cycle route Adventures in the Lower Betuwe
Opheusden, Dodewaard, Zetten
The Lower Betuwe is a region in the Betuwe located between the rivers Nederrijn and Waal. Besides the fruit orchards, meadows and market gardens, there is much more to experience in this region! During this cycle route, you will travel through the history of the Lower Betuwe through adventurous places.
Visit the Gelders Smalspoormuseum and take a ride on a real narrow-gauge train. You ride through the beautiful countryside along the Lower Rhine. Along the banks, workers used to extract clay from the ground, which they transported on the narrow-gauge railway.
Or dive much further into history; back to the year 100 when the Romans lived here. The river formed the border of the Roman Empire. Along the water, they built castles, fortresses and watchtowers. Climb the Roman watchtower De Spees in Kesteren and experience for yourself what it is like to be on the lookout!
The Betuwe is known for its fruit cultivation. And that fruit growing can also be adventurous, Fruitpark Ochten proves! Discover it on the lookout tower, at the children's farm and the large playground. With a barefoot path where you walk on no fewer than 30 different surfaces, your day can't go wrong.
