Cheese Valley cycle route
Woerden, Kamerik, Bodegraven
A route for real cheese lovers! Get ready to experience the "yellow gold”, the wheel-shaped world-famous cheese which can weigh up to 16 kilos. Gouda cheese is not rich in flavour, but also it's history. For centuries, the cheeses were traded in the city that gave them their name: Gouda. However, the Gouda cheese was actually produced in the surrounding polders - in the Cheese Valley. This very cheese is still made in this quintessentially Dutch landscape of grazing cows, ditches and pollard-willows. Per season and per farm, the taste of the cheeses vary - ranging from young to older mature cheese and from herb cheese to truffle cheese.
The Cheese Valley cycle route also takes you along the cheese warehouse in Woerden. Here you will learn all about the world of cheese in the Cheese Experience. You can also discover true farm life at Boerderij de Graaf and learn more about this special craft in the Cheese Museum in Bodegraven.
