Emmeloord, Kuinre, Ossenzijl

This route is for the real sports enthusiasts! This cycling route gives you wonderful impressions of nature in the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The area has a great variety between land and water. In the past, there were many dikes and ditches in the area to make it habitable. Like more places in the Netherlands, this turned out to be a good location for peat extraction, because of the dried peat bog. Until 1920 peat extraction was an important industry here, but the availability of new fuels made peat extraction unprofitable. Farmers eventually sold their land to nature organizations, which is how the National Park was created. Besides that the cycling route goes through this beautiful area, you also cycle through the polder. You will pass Emmeloord, Kuinre and Ossenzijl.
