Veenhuizen, Fochteloërveen, Appelscha
Veenhuizen, a special village with a wonderful history, namely that of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is nothing like other villages in Drenthe. Straight lanes, stately buildings and more than 100 national monuments characterise the special prison village and former unfree Colony of Benevolence.
From here, you can easily cycle to the Fochteloërveen. On the border of Friesland and Drenthe lies this vast, desolate and impressive bog landscape. Via the charming town of Appelscha, you cycle through the Drents-Friese Wold National Park.
Culture and nature meet during this wonderful cycle route. Enjoyment with a capital E!
