Doesburg, Rheden, Velp

The small town of Doesburg was located especially favourably on the junction of the IJssel and the Oude IJssel. Thus, there was a fast connection with the German hinterland. And apparently the merchants were knowledgeable, because in 1447 Doesburg was allowed to join the Hanseatic League as a Hanseatic city.

This cycle route leads you through the beautiful town where many medieval buildings are well preserved. At the Veerpoortstraat, for example, you will find Huize Pniël (no. 31), Huis Lumberden (no. 22) and Huis Deventer (no. 11). On Meipoortstraat, you will find Huis Op den Noort (no. 59) and Huis Schoonhoven (no. 32). Be sure to look up at the beautiful facades.

After having explored Doesburg, you cycle along the banks of the river IJssel. From the cycle path, you have a view of the water, a wonderful view. Feel the relaxation and peace that nature brings you as soon as you cycle into the woods of the Veluwezoom. The National Park is home to large mammals such as red deer, fallow deer, roe deer and boars. But also special species of birds, such as the kingfisher, the tree falcon and the nightjar, and even six of the seven indigenous species of reptiles, such as the adder, grass snake and sand lizard. Don't worry, the snakes hide out during the day and you won't encounter them easily!

Start and finish at the starting point of the route: Pannekoekenbakker Doesburg, between junctions 35, 09 and 01. Here you will find ample parking space and an address to end your day with a delicious pancake for everyone!
