The Zuuker mill actually consists of two water mills facing each other on the Klaarbeek, each with a unique history.
The southern mill, originally a corn mill, was partially demolished in 1731 to channel more water to the paper mill below. Later, after protests by the owner of the corn mill, it was eventually sold to the owner of the paper mill. In 1886, the Bourgonje family bought the corn mill and it became known locally as 'Bourgonje's Zuukerkorenmolen'.
On the northern side was a water mill with a penny-cutting mill, later converted to a paper mill and then a sawmill. Eventually, the Gelria dairy factory settled in the mill, making cheese and pasteurising milk. In 1945, J.F.H. de Lange started a business in the mill buildings, which later evolved into the Veluwse Machine Industrie (VMI).
In 1950, the water wheels of both mills were removed, but on the occasion of VMI's anniversary in 1990, new wheels were installed, with a commemorative plaque marking the event.
