This monument was unveiled in Zuidlaren on 13 October 2000 in honour of the 800th Zuidlaardermarkt. This market used to be a horse market, but today it is a large animal and commodity market. Around 150,000 people come here every third Tuesday in October. The first mention of the market comes from 1701, but there is also a charter from 1232 that already mentions the market in ‘Laren’.
