The third day of the Nijmegen Four Days Marches concludes with the Seven Hills Road. From the river Maas, participants climb to the cosy village of Groesbeek. After the festive passage in this village, they embark on a very tough task....
The name of the long, straight road gives it away: seven hills await the walkers! That's pretty tough after yet another long day with dozens of kilometres behind them. The road has steep sections, which succeed each other after short descents. Those who still have energy can enjoy the beautiful green nature. Those who are struggling have to go extra deep here. The many supporters along the side give the final push towards the Wedren.
Halfway up the Seven Hills Road, walkers pass a Canadian cemetery. Almost three thousand soldiers are buried here who died during World War II. This place is particularly important for the military participants. Until 2018, they paid tribute to the deceased soldiers here at the end of the third day with two minutes of silence. Nowadays, this commemoration takes place on the Monday before the Four Days Marches.
