Willemstad Curaçao has been UNESCO World Heritage since 1997. The Kingdom of the Netherlands has 10 World Heritage Sites, nine of which are located in the small country by the sea, the tenth is on the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea. A sheltered bay that provided a natural harbour for the West India Company, which founded a trading post here in 1634. Therefrom, Willemstad grew and later became a centre for the slave trade for America. The historic city centre, with its colourful mix of Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese influences, is a unique example of a former Dutch colonial city in the Caribbean. Cycling to this World Heritage is challenging, but dreaming of a beautiful holiday to this island is possible, right? And once on the island, there are plenty of cycling and walking tours.

Did you know that 50 nationalities are living together on Curacao and that most people speak four languages? They speak Papiamentu, Dutch, English and Spanish.
