Wheat mill Landzigt - Zuid-Beijerland

N 51.751691 / E 4.358476

A wooden teeter-totter mill stood on the Hitsertsedijk in Zuid-Beijerland as early as 1659. The craftsmen of Zuid-Beijerland annually leased the wind right to a corn miller.
Local residents were obliged to have their grains ground by him. Wheat was also milled for the poor on behalf of the diocese. As a grinding fee, the miller received ten pennies per bag for a long time.

A flat gable stone on the northeast side commemorates the construction of the new round stone mill. The inscription reads: First stone laid by Am Blaak Bzn on den 24 March 1857 born 27 Dec 1849. This was the 7-year-old son of owner Bastiaan Blaak. The mill was restored in 1955. The new owner did not possess the skills of a miller and used the mill as a storehouse. Thereafter, mill enthusiast Maarten Pieter Hunink came into possession of the mill. On a voluntary basis with the help of a group of young millwrights, the mill was restored entirely on his own. Hunnink soon acquired a loyal customer base for his home-milled flour products.

During a storm on 25 January 1990, the sails went through the brake and a fire started, after which the cast iron upper shaft broke and the sails fell onto the Molendijk. To enable rebuilding of the mill, the Landzigt Windmill Foundation was established on 1 February 1990. On 16 November 2006, ownership of the mill was transferred to its former owner Hunink. Stichting Molen Landzigt 1857 Zuid-Beijerland, once established to rebuild the mill after a fire in 1990, continues to exist to actively support the miller in the management and maintenance of the mill.

The mill is in full operation grinding wheat. It is not possible to visit the inside of the mill.
