The Weurtsch Straatje is a special path in the Beuningse Uiterwaarden, close to the river Waal. This path dates back to the 11th century and originally served as a dike. After modifications to the winter dyke, the dyke lost its original function and transformed into a cattle drive, popularly known as a 'street'.
A characteristic feature of the Straatje is the planting of a double row of shrubs with a path in between, flanked by old native trees such as Spanish Ash or field maples. These trees, typical of riparian forests, have become rare in the Netherlands.
The province of Gelderland and municipality of Beuningen have restored the alley and made it publicly accessible, also preserving the historical boundary trees that once marked plot boundaries.
