The mill was built in 1818 as a corn and flour mill by order of Gerrit Helmus Snel. The miller's house, which still exists today, followed in 1823. In 1962, the mill had to be shut down again due to defects in the mill cap.
A new restoration in 1969 allowed the mill to be put back into operation. Unfortunately, the fun did not last long. The severe November storm of 1972 damaged the sails and the mill came to a standstill again. Repairs did not follow until 1974. Unfortunately, the mill did not turn much. Changes in fodder production meant that the mill was no longer needed for milling. A period of decay and uncertainty about the mill's continued existence then began, which lasted until 1987. In that year, the Dalfsen municipality purchased the mill and had it restored in 1988. A new restoration started in autumn 2011, which was completed in summer 2012. The mill is currently operated by the Westermolen Dalfsen Foundation.
Westermolen is located near several junctions, making it the perfect point to stop by.
