Westerbouwing was built around 1800 on the edge of the Rhine. During World War II, the estate played an important role during Operation Market Garden. The operation had failed, leaving the Allies stuck on the wrong side of the Rhine. Via De Westerbouwing, many soldiers were able to cross anyway, but the estate was almost completely destroyed.
The estate was divided into two parts: The Westerbouwing and The Cables. Both sites are beautifully situated on the edge of the forest and overlooking the water. From De Westerbouwing you can see the Betuwe behind the Lower Rhine; on the horizon are Arnhem, Driel and Nijmegen. From De Kabels, you look straight into the exciting forest with a small view through to beautiful Driel. That makes this place unique!
The estate is now an event location, but on weekends a To Go point is open for something tasty to eat and drink.
