The large ponds, watercourses, copses of trees and beautiful vistas make Westbroek Park one of the most beautiful parks in The Hague. The park is loosely inspired by the English landscape style.
Until 1860, the park was a dune forest. A contractor came up with the idea to excavate the dune forest free of charge and turn it into fertile land. The excavated sand was then used to raise the ground elsewhere. Thus, a meadow was created at this spot. Many years later, a park was designed by the then director of municipal parks, Mr Westbroek. This design was completed in 1926. As a tribute to the director, the park was named 'Westbroek Park'.
The special feature of Westbroek Park is the International Rosarium. As many as 20,000 roses bloom in this rose garden. Every year, they are in bloom between June and the end of October. So during this period, a visit to the park is extra special!
In the park is the romantic Theesalon De Waterkant, where you can enjoy a nice lunch. For a few euros you can hire a rowing boat to sail around the park.
Westbroekpark is freely accessible. The Rosarium is open at the following times:
From 1 April to 30 September:
Open daily from 7.45am to 10pm.
From 1 October to 31 March:
Open daily from 7.45am to 4.15pm.
