The history of this estate goes back a long way: as early as 1244 the name Weleveld was mentioned and around 1300 the first house on the estate was built. It was a simple building, namely the so-called 'spieker' (storage barn), but nevertheless this was enough to make it the official foundation date of the estate. This makes it one of the three oldest havezates (large estates) in Twente. The name Weleveld is derived from Wolfsveld, as it was first called. This name was corrupted into Wellsfelt, Welvelde and finally Weleveld. The wolf lives on in the coat of arms of the Welevelds and this is honoured by the several statues of wolves that are scattered around the estate.
There is a lot to see and do here! Enjoy nature and the many birds. With a bit of luck, you will see roe deer, hares, rabbits and sometimes even foxes in the wild areas around the estate. The statues of Middeleeuws Weleveld show, with 35 life-size figures, how life on the estate looked like in the Middle Ages. This field is open to the public.
Fancy an active outdoor outing? The Weleveld country estate offers numerous possibilities! You can go canoeing, do some archery, take a covered wagon ride, go on a scavenger hunt or play golf on the golf course. For walking, it offers a number of beautiful hikes.
Be sure to cycle past the Huiskes-Beltman dairy farm. At the Melktap Weleveld, you can tap fresh milk yourself every day. You can also buy fresh eggs here or take a guided tour.
