The water tower on the Indiëterrein in Almelo was built in 1924 and was part of the Nijverdal-Ten Cate textile factory. The eight-sided tower, also called a ‘dust tower’, was designed to store fire-fighting water for the fire-prone factory halls. The Indië site owes its name to the production of textiles for the former Dutch colonies. Today, the site is being redeveloped, with the historic water tower retained and possibly transformed into a striking apartment complex.
