During the liberation of Walcheren, the Allies went from village to village, liberating them one by one. There was heavy fighting. So too at this water tower. Some soldiers of the German occupying forces had entrenched themselves in Domburg's water tower. When the Norwegian soldiers had a chance to throw grenades into the tower, the Germans surrendered.
The tower towers over the dunes and can be seen from all around. You can still see the damage on the outer wall.
