The water features of the Gelders Spijker estate were once located here. This and the desire to give dragonflies, salamanders, frogs and toads a chance in the neighbourhood inspired residents to plan a garden with large ponds.
The site became available after a printing company was demolished. Then a solution had to be found for the soil contamination at the site. From 1991, residents and the municipality were able to continue working on the plan. The opening of the garden took place in 1993. The garden is home to dozens of protected plants and animals and is a quiet oasis in the hustle and bustle of the city.
