In the Lemster Polders is a watchtower that gives you a spectacular view over the marsh, the water and the reed beds of both the polders and the Grutte Brekken. You are right in the middle of nature here.
Not only is the landscape a feast for the eyes, hundreds of birds of all shapes and sizes also live here. Sand martins skitter across the water and nest on the landscaped sand mounds. With a bit of luck, a kingfisher flashes by. Wild ducks and geese bob on the rippling water surface and waders wade through the pools. Bats and amphibians also find their home here.
You reach the tower via a short footpath from the Wielewei in Lemmer. It can be quite boggy, so good, sturdy footwear is important. Don't forget to bring your binoculars! As the watchtower sits at a distance from the pond.
