Watch tower De Bosberg stands on the highest point of the Frisian mainland, a shifting dune 27 metres above sea level. In clear weather, you have a wide view over the beautiful Drents-Friese Wold National Park and the cities of Leeuwarden, Groningen and Coevorden.
The tower is designed like a huge tree trunk, and next to it you can see three large branches emerging from the sand. These appear to be the tops of a giant oak tree at least 300 years old. The ancient oak tree is mostly hidden under the shifting dune, which is why nobody knows exactly how old it is.
Pauze your cycle route here for a short walk and enjoy the beautiful view.
