Thanks to the efforts of the Stichting Muurgedichten Nunspeet, you come across unusual wall poems in a variety of places in both Nunspeet and Elspeet, for example on the wall of an old school, against a farm fence or simply in the middle of the woods. During the short cycle route 'Outdoor art on the North Veluwe' you will pass seven of these poems:

The Boy on Horseback, Stakenbergweg 11 Elspeet
On this wall poem, only the first and last stanza of Willem de Mérode's sonnet De Jongen te paard (The Boy on a Horse) are reproduced. Willem de Mérode is the pseudonym of writer and poet Willem Eduard Keuning (Spijk, 1887-1939). He was initially a teacher, but after a prison sentence for sexual contact with an underage boy, he retired to Eerbeek. He has been described as 'the most important Dutch Protestant Christian poet of the period between the two world wars'.

De Schalmei, Nachtegaalweg 2F Elspeet
De Schalmei is about the man 'Wanjka called Iwan'. He enjoys playing his shalmei or shepherd's flute much more than working. Poet and writer Jan Jacob Slauerhoff (Leeuwarden, 1898-1936) travelled extensively as a shipping doctor. He had poor health himself and died relatively young.

Reisbrief and Drukproef, Stationslaan 28a (side)
In Reisbrief, poet Bergman evocatively recounts the place where he arrived and even compares it to paradise. In the second poem Proofing, he uses text parts as a metaphor for life.
Bergman's real name is Aart Kok (Bergambacht, 1921-2009). He wrote several books of poetry and was simultaneously a teacher and, for several years, headmaster in the building against which his wall poems now hang in Nunspeet.

Pointless, Dorpsstraat Nunspeet
Some things, like love, cannot be described with words. In Zinloos, poet Kees Keizer (Nunspeet, 1952) calls on himself and his lover to stop it then. Keizer is a local columnist and poet who loves the quiet life on the Veluwe.

Zandverstuiving, Brandsweg 78 Hulshorst
This poem by Hans Andreus describes the absurdity of human mutual struggle for something abundant. But fortunately, the poetry transcends everyday life.
Hans Andreus is the pseudonym of Johan Wilhelm van der Zant (Amsterdam, 1926-1977). He was a writer and poet. His poems were mainly inspired by the literary movement De Vijftigers. He lived on the Veluwe for several years, which inspired him to write three collections of poetry.

The Bozbezbozzel, Stakenbergweg Vierhouten
This poem full of unknown animals is one of the well-known, playful and humorous 'gargle rhymes' about fantasy creatures with which poet C. Buddingh became known. Cornelis Buddingh (Dordrecht, 1918-1985) was a poet, prose writer, translator and television presenter.
