The famous Gouda and Stolk farm cheese comes from Stolwijk. The Krimpenerwaard is enclosed by the rivers Hollansche IJssel, Vlist and Lek and was in earlier times easily accessible by the many ferry connections. Nevertheless, it was difficult to deliver fresh milk to customers and buyers on time. Farmers therefore processed the milk into cheese, which had a much longer shelf life. The name of the village is probably also due to the making of cheese: the milk was 'solidified' there. Stolwijk has a cosy village square with many local entrepreneurs. Here you are very welcome!
