Viewpoint De Waterral offers a beautiful view over the Horspolders and Kreeftepolder, two special nature reserves south of the Mok Bay. These dune valleys were created after the construction of sand dykes, creating wet areas with fresh water. This created a unique landscape with a high water table and varied plant growth.
From this viewpoint, you have a view of the reed-lined Horsmeertjes, where many special birds breed. You can spot species such as marsh harrier, bluethroat, bittern and bearded reedling here. The gull colony in the Kreeftepolder is also easy to spot. Besides the many birds that can be seen here, striking plants such as grass of Parnassia and marsh helleborine grow in this area, as well as an increasing number of mushrooms, including waxwort.
