Limestone was quarried in the quarry until 2009 for the production of fertiliser by DSM. The best quality limestone was used for flue gas desulphurisation. The limestone was extracted by spring charges.

In 2009, opencast production ended and the entire area was redeveloped as a nature reserve.

You will have to go to this viewpoint on foot.
