The unique and authentic stream valley of the Lieversche Diep consists largely of grassland and is overgrown with rare plants. These include the protected broad-leaved orchid, the adderwort, with its lilac-pink spike-shaped flowers and the golden oriole, with yellow flowers and a triangular stem. In spring, the kingfisher breeds in this fragile nature reserve.
To protect this beautiful but fragile nature, the stream valley is not accessible to walkers or cyclists. In order to still be able to enjoy this natural beauty, the municipality of Lieveren, in cooperation with Dorpsbelangen Lieveren, Staatsbosbeheer and the province, placed a watchtower here. The watchtower, half-hidden among a group of trees, is shaped like a pulpit, hence its nickname.
