This new arm of the Vecht ensures that the river has space during prolonged rainfall. During the excavation, many ancient flints were found. The Vecht valley has been inhabited for thousands of centuries. Not only by people, but of course also by animals. During the excavation of this new arm, for instance, a skull fragment of an aurochs came to the surface. The animal lived here 8,000 years ago with its herd, along with elk and red deer, among others. They saw the Vecht valley without human influences. The skull fragment is on display at Nature Activity Centre De Koppel, which is on this route.
