At the heart of the fortified town of Klundert stands the imposing town hall, an architectural gem from 1621. Designed by Melchior van Herbach and financed with support from Prince Maurits, this building is a magnificent example of the Flemish Renaissance style. The town hall is built of red and yellow brick and richly decorated with natural stone ornaments. Special features are the stepped gables on the sides and the double-barrelled staircase with shield-bearing lions, which adorn the façade. Above the entrance you can see the city coat of arms, and high in the gable top a statue of Lady Justice watches over the city.
Although the interior has been modified over the years, the exterior of the building has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries. You can walk around the entire building to admire the rich details on all sides.
Today, the town hall serves as the official wedding location of the Moerdijk municipality.
