As early as the mid-17th century, a windmill belonging to the nearby Tolhuys stood on a belt at its current location. In the early 19th century, a wooden mill of the upper mill type stood on the same spot. On 17 March 1887, this mill burned down completely. The mill was rebuilt a year later in brick. On 18 July 1930, the mill was again destroyed by fire. The interior was then restored for electric grinding. Turning by wind power was no longer possible from that date.
In the 1960s, the mill, to which an agricultural business was attached, was rehabilitated by the government and subsequently fell into disrepair. Demolition of the mill hull was imminent, as preservation efforts came to nothing. In 1987, the Friends of the Lobith Mill Foundation was established with the motto: Mill restoration by this generation. In 1995, a new thatch-covered cap was placed on the mill's hull. On National Mill Day 1996, the Tolhuys Coornmolen was festively recommissioned.
