Griftpark was built on the site where the municipal gasworks used to be. On a walk through Griftpark, you will come across several works of art. The most striking are these three 'Great Figures for Utrecht', as the three giant human figures are called. German artist Thomas Schütte created the trio in 1998 and in the same year they were placed in the Utrecht park.
One figure has his head bent forward and holds one arm in front of his chest and the other up. The second holds his arms crossed in front of his waist. The third has his arms stretched out along his body and looks up at the sky. The figures' body postures are so expressive that they seem to be telling a story. Exactly what the story is is open to your own interpretation. What do you think they are telling?
