When Alida Greve died in 1742, her will stated that her beautiful house was to become a home for 'old women and spinster women' from the reformed church. They were to be given a room to live in free of charge and a monthly allowance. The first to benefit from this was Sophia Jans who was Alida Greve's servant for decades. The (Old) Women's House was occupied until 1984.
After restoration, the building is now open to the public, although only by appointment during guided tours and activities such as Open Monuments Days.
