As most of the mills in the Land van Cuijk date from the 19th century, this mill can be called quite young. It is probably one of the last mills in the Netherlands that were newly built for commercial use. Later in this century, we only see (re)construction of mills from a cultural point of view. By the way, 'The Progress' wasn't the only mill in Oeffelt because, like more villages in the region, Oeffelt also had two mills. In May 1953, the mill burned down completely. As a result, the mill remained in the landscape for several decades as a desolate stump. It would take until 1993 before the mill was complete again. Nowadays, the mill is run by volunteers on a weekly basis and is an instruction mill for new millers.
