To stop motorised smugglers, customs officers laid these roadblocks: the spider heads, also called Frisian Horsemen. The smugglers in turn used so-called 'crow's feet' to puncture the tyres of customs vehicles. This created a true cat and mouse game between the customs officer and the smuggler.
