The heart of Rotterdam was badly hit by bombing during the Second World War. But after the war, the people of Rotterdam put their shoulders to the wheel and worked on a new city centre. This has given the skyline of Rotterdam a special appearance. The world famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas designed De Rotterdam, which certainly contributes to 'the Manhattan on the Maas'. Three transparent towers of 150 metres high stand on a pedestal where the catering industry has an important place.
