The Priona Gardens were designed in the late 1970s by artists Henk Gerritsen and Anton Schlepers. Their philosophy was to design with nature. Tight hedges and paths provide structure, while wild and perennial plants are given free rein. The result is a garden that lives and breathes, a controlled chaos in greenery.
Their approach was groundbreaking and became famous worldwide. The Priona Gardens are the epitome of the Dutch Wave in garden architecture and attract visitors from all over the world every year. The books on this unique style are classics in garden literature and continue to inspire. There are even podcasts honouring Gerritsen's work and his natural vision.
No fertiliser, no pesticides. More than 5,000 plant species flourish here, and it teems with life. After the death of the founders, this ecological paradise continues in their spirit. Volunteers, donors and sponsors ensure that this green heritage survives for future generations. The gardens are free to visit.
