Before 1911 there was a standerd mill with the same name on the same spot. Since time immemorial, two windmills have stood in Veenendaal, both in the province of Gelderland and in the province of Utrecht: a standerd windmill on the Molenpol, known as the Old or Stichtse Molen, in the province of Utrecht, and De Nieuwe Molen, a standerd windmill on the site of the present stone tower windmill, in the province of Gelderland. A monument was erected on the spot where the Old Mill stood in 1991.
