The mill has a rich history and was originally located in Roodkerk, where it was built in 1892 to drain Sytsma's polder. At that time, the mill featured a reed-covered octagon and cap, a wooden windshaft, and self-regulating sails. In 1962, the mill was dismantled in Roodkerk and rebuilt in 1969 as "The Mearmin" in the Geastmermearpolder (Geestmermeer Polder), near the Geastmer Mar (Geestmermeer).
During reconstruction, a cast-iron shaft from 1903, manufactured by H.J. Koning in Foxham (number 70), was reused. This component came from a demolished mill in Birdaard in 1968. Additionally, the stone foundation, tail with winch, and a wooden sail stock were also reused. The screw pump was salvaged from a burned mill in Aduard.
The mill was last used for pumping water from the Woudvaart into the Geestmermeer, but it fell into severe disrepair in the years that followed.
