Cycle a little along Tongerenseweg and, next to house numbers 210 and 212, you will walk right into the vast Tongeren estate. Follow the footpath further to De Leemkuil. In the past, farmers mined clay here for their floors and baking ovens. Now it is a surprising piece of water in the middle of the woods. It is surrounded by rhododendrons, among others, and numerous water lilies float on the water. Around the water, you will usually find many tracks of wild boar and deer. If you are very quiet, you may even see one drinking!
If you follow the footpath a little further, you will come to a larger lake. This lake is sometimes called De Leemkuil, but it is actually a sand quarry. That does not make the place any less beautiful! Here too, many game tracks around the water indicate that this place is often used by animals for drinking.
