The Langenberg - Zelhem

N 52.016036 / E 6.3299223

De Langenberg started as a rubbish dump for the Achterhoek region in the 1960s. Years ago, the last cargo was dumped, then rubbish dump was transformed into a viewpoint. At 43 metres, De Langenberg in Zelhem is the highest peak in the wider area.

On a clear day, you can see the church towers of Doesburg, Doetinchem, Hengelo, Zelhem and Kijenborg. Interrupt your cycle route for a walk up. It's a bit of a climb but well worth it. Interesting fact: this former landfill now offers not only a view but also green energy! Surprising what waste can do.
