The Glass Farm - Schijndel
On the central market square in Schijndel stands the multifunctional building of De Glazen Boerderij. As the name suggests, it is a farm made of glass. The walls are entirely made of glass, making it look modern, but the fire-painted traditional Schijndel farmhouse still makes it authentic. The farm image is a combination of photos of all the remaining Schijndel farms. Inside, in an area of 1,600 m2, you will find shops, restaurants and a wellness centre, among other things.
The Glass Farm was designed by Schijndel architect Winy Maas. As a 20-year-old boy, he submitted a written request to realise a publicly accessible building on the empty spot on the market square. Yet it took no less than 33 years before he got agreement to fill the still empty spot on the market square.
