The Flawless Work - Ouddorp
Goeree is an island without big cities. Yet the growling and pulsating Rotterdam is never far away. During the day, the factory pipes, windmills and all manner of Maasvlakte machinery are clearly visible. Their presence is relatively modest then, more of a backdrop for the seals and birds. Once darkness falls, that changes. Just stand on the Flaauwe Werk dike. Every industrial object wears not one or two, but whole zips of lights on its steel body. One of Europe's largest and busiest industrial areas has Christmas lights permanently on from sunset to sunrise. Whether that is beautiful or ugly, we will leave to one side. In any case, it is something you don't see in daylight.
